Is it reasonable to be against abortion and still believe it should remain legalized?

I am against abortion because I believe an unborn child is still a life, but I think it would be harmful to society to completely illegalize abortion. Instead, I think that we should put more emphasis on social responsibility for both men and women, better sex education, and push for more adoptions in situations where a woman cannot keep her child. People deserve their rights, but they also must take personal responsibility. Do you think this is a reasonable viewpoint?

Ya, i think it is a reasonable viewpoint.

I am against abortion as well, but always on the fence about it being legal. I hate it that it is legal cause a lot of girl/women use abortion as birth control, but on the other hand, if it wasn’t legal, a lot of women would be doing self-abortions, and that is dangerous as well.

But i do agree with your viewpoint.

I think that’s a perfectly reasonable viewpoint. As long as you don’t enforce your beliefs on other people, you can believe whatever you choose.

I def. agree with you, I think if they completely illegalized abortion people would still try and abort their babies, which could kill them also. I am against abortion but alot of people have different opinions.

Absolutely, I know plenty of people like that. I have many female friends who themselves would never have an abortion, but who say they absolutely believe in a woman’s right to choose for herself.

i think it should still remain legal.. but i am also pro-life, i think abortion should only be legal in certain circumstances – like if the mothers/baby’s life will be risked during pregnancy or birth or if the child or mother would have no quality of life at all after the birth.

Adoption is all very well but unfortunately there are so many children out there who have been put up for adoption, there aren’t enough people to take the children, if only the state/government would make it easier to adopt, i understand they have to do safety checks etc but it shouldnt cost so much money.. in fact i believe it should be free or a couple of hundred pounds/dollars, then more people like myself would go to adopt these poor abandoned/mistreated children.

Also personally, i think there are too many couples wanting to adopt babies from other countries for the novelty factor… so they can say oh im adoptin an african/thai/indian baby… when there are children from our own countries that are in desperate need of someone to love them!

I think this isn’t the appropriate section (should probably be in politics)… regardless of that, I think honestly to say that an unborn baby is a life, but yet to say it should be an option to end that life in x, y, or z circumstances is a little double minded. How can we KNOW that that baby is a human life, but then under any circumstance approve of his/her killing? A woman’s life circumstances do not change what is being done to the baby-it’s a totally seperate issue and abortion is NOT a Constitutional right/right of any kind.

Add: as far as if it’s outlawed people would still do it (as I saw a few people say), should that apply to everything? People steal, murder, rape, and commit any number of things that are illegal, should we then legalize those things to make them "safer"?

I don’t think it’s unreasonable in any way, and I agree with you 110%. There really do need to be less abortions in this country, but I do mean less, and not none at all. Sometimes they are necessary. What if an 11 year old girl who had gotten her period (I got mine that early, what’s to say other girls don’t?) and then was raped? An 11 year old girl’s body can’t possibly be able to handle a pregnancy! Yes, there should be less. But women should be able to decide for themselves. Voters shouldn’t be able to decide choices for everyone. Take away my choice only when you want me to take away one of yours.

I entirely agree with you that it is harmful to society to make it illegal. Personal rights are far more important.

I personally do not believe in abortions… but that gives me no right to dictate what others do.

Yes, I think that’s a reasonable viewpoint. Many so-called pro-choicers are very much in favour of easy access to reliable birth control, more widespread use of that birth control, information on adoption etc. but still believe abortion should be legal.
