Surely, either way, you are denying a potentially unique human being the chance of life?
I don’t understand why people think contraception is so much better than abortion – is there really any difference between denying an individual life one way, or another way?
If you didn’t have sex, that egg and that sperm would be lost anyway – gone forever, never to be repeated. How is it so different to promote abstinence rather than abortion, when the end result is the same? ![]()
I see what you’re saying. In both of these cases, a fetus COULD have a chance to become a baby, and in both cases, they’re not. No sex=no baby, abortion=no baby.

With your logic murder should be legal since abstinence is. Would be the same thing if your parents just never had sex or if they just shot you now right?
You can’t compare abstinence and abortion. It’s ridiculous.

Abstinence is not contraception. Abstinence is not having any sex at all. Contraception is placing a barrier, either physical or chemical between the sperm and the ovum. While all three, contraception, abstinence and abortion are denials of potential life, only abortion is the actual end of that potential life. In the Roman Catholic Church, contraception is considered to be the same as abortion.

abstinence is not making the baby, not bringing it in to existence. you can’t abort or eliminate something that isn’t there. that is the difference.

Well, I think you are misinformed. A baby forms when the egg & the sperm unite in a woman’s uterus (womb) and it’s called conception.
Yes, abortion is terminating a developing fetus (baby) before his/her full development in the mother’s womb.
Abstinence does not harm a living being because conception does not happen. Abstinence is in other words -not having sex- and the only way to conceive a baby IS by having sex.
When an egg is not fertilized by a sperm, it’s absorbed by the female’s body (thus a menstrual period occur).
When a sperm does not fertilize an egg it’s either expelled or absorbed by the male’s body. These two are cells, not living beings. The human body is constantly producing millions of new cells and absorbing them at the end of their cell cycle. Abstinence is the best way of contraception. It’s not wrong.

Being lost (not put to use) is completely different than an already existing life form. I’d rather see no life come into existence that wasn’t going to make it out of the womb but I’d rather unwanted life cease to be inside the womb than make it out and be exposed to abuse and neglect.

If you abstain from sex you are not ‘wasting’ an egg or sperm, they would stay in your body because you are not procreating.
The difference between abstinence and abortion is that to have an abortion, you first have to have sex and become pregnant. To abstain means you will not have sex at all. Abstinence is not a form of contraception.
By abstaining you are not denying a fetus the right to live because there is not fetus and to be honest if a couple or a woman decides to abort then I would expect there was a pretty good reason for it as it is a very big decision to make that can effect a women’s ability to have children and one that can cause mental trauma to the woman. I’m pro-choice.
Even when a couple is trying to conceive they will probably have to try for a long period of time to become pregnant. If we were to take your view that would be a waste of sperm and an egg but conception isn’t just a miracle that can happen after one attempt, it is a stroke of luck with many risks and factors that can be manipulated by the couple involved.
As far as I’m concerned, contraception is the way forward because then teens and young adults learn about safe sex and STDS and feel more comfortable with their own bodies and sexuality.
Also if you have safe sex or masturbate you won’t be wasting your eggs or sperm, your body will produce more. Its clever like that!

No i don’t think there is. I feel extremely guilty every time i have sex for using protection. But its the knowledge of actually conceiving, knowing that you have both made a baby and that that baby is yours. To not take responsibility when you know for sure that you have created a life (Your own child) and that in 9 months you’ll be a parent unless you kill the life inside is what makes abortion worse. Some people can’t even have kids, they’re just not compatible. Once you’ve conceived, you know for certain that you have a life inside of you. Therefore you know for certain that you’re killing your child.
Coz if we were to look at it like how you’re asking, then even masturbation is wrong (As a Christian i believe it is, but good luck convincing everyone else)

?? You really can’t see the difference between an egg cell and a fetus? Seriously? I always thought you were a really smart woman.
The egg cell on its own isn’t potential life – it’s just raw genetic material. On its own it is not alive. Same as a sperm cell. It’s not life, it’s genetic material. But once you combine the two, all of a sudden you have what it takes to form a human being, and it starts doing that immediately.
The end result of abstinence and abortion is not the same at all. Abstinence means that a baby is never conceived in the first place. Abortion, however, takes the life of a baby that has already been conceived and has already started developing into a full-term baby. Honestly, if you can’t see the difference between the two, I’m very surprised.
"When an egg is not fertilized by a sperm, it’s absorbed by the female’s body (thus a menstrual period occur)."
Actually, the egg matures and ripens as it travels down the fallopian tube into the uterus, and then it’s too old to be fertilized. It is then expelled from the woman’s body along with the uterine lining, which would have been used when the fertilized egg implanted had the woman conceived. The egg doesn’t get absorbed.
"These two are cells, not living beings. The human body is constantly producing millions of new cells and absorbing them at the end of their cell cycle."
Females are born with all the egg cells we will ever have – I think it’s around 4,000. We don’t create more. They’re all we’ve got.

I believe the main difference is that contraception and abstinence are about prevention and abortion is about destruction. When using proper contraception or abstaining you are taking responsibility for your actions beforehand and aside from religious arguments is always acceptable.
But each abortion is unique, sometimes it is justifiable other times not so much. Cases like rape or when the foetus or mother won’t survive the pregnancy are what most people would accept as tragic and understandable for an abortion to take place. But there are also cases where someone was too lazy too use contraception and can’t be bothered with a child so just want rid of it, which aren’t that justifiable in a society where giving a child up for adoption is a possibility. There are also in-between cases eg very young people who made a mistake.

The morning after pill is the closest thing to an abortion that I can compare to abstinence. The m.a. pill prevents the union of an egg and sperm. The egg as you say will be lost through menstruation. However I don’t see a clinical abortion as comparable to abstinence because you will have to terminate a developing life one way or another.
In reality the biggest difference however is that there is no sexual pleasure involved in abstinence no matter what type of birth control you compare it too.
Edit- I have to amend this. There’s even less difference between using a m.a. pill and abstinence if the definition of abstinence includes oral and "everything but" petting in which the only thing a couple avoids is consummation.

abortion = the illing of a foetus( it already there and you’re destroying.

Once the egg and the sperm have united, then they have made a baby. Abstinence (or effective contraception) prevents only the possibility of conception (you don’t always get pregnant every time you have sex, even if you don’t use contraception – look at all the people who try desperately to get pregnant and can’t manage it).
Once conception has taken place, what you have is a human being. And taking human life is supposed to be a bad thing, or so at least goes the theory.

Human life is a process (Tao) rather than an end. In that process, self-control has been at the heart of every human refinement, every advancement. Thus self-control has an absolute value, which separates the noble from the piggish (or the abstinent from the abortive).
Thinking in terms of an "end result" rather than a process yields this reasoning: as we all die in the end nothing matters. Serial killer and sage are thus equated: be what you will… Such perversity is called Nihilism, the destruction of all values, which is also the destruction of nations and peoples. Thus Nihilism, the basis of your feminista mindset, is an aspect of the demonic. Maybe you’ll outgrow it; if not, seek help.

People have a problem with abortion because the fetus is *alive* instead of being non living dead cell.
Personally speaking, I dont get it either. Use contraception or get an abortion – Both ways, the parents are PREVENTING the child from being born. In both cases, the parents DONT want the child.
Pro lifers call anyone who aborts since she "doesnt want a child" as selfish, dont they? Why do they want contraception use then, arent those women using birth control because they dont want the child? So when they dont want the child, they are taking measures which will prevent the baby from developing from an egg cell to a fetus to potential baby to FULLY ALIVE HUMAN BEING. Anything which isnt fully alive cannot be compared to something which is. It’s ridiculous and pro lifers need to stop thinking of the fetus as God.

Although I agree with religious conservatives who want to challenge the youth to delay sexual activity for a while, I totally disagree with their message that a condom is a provision for sin. I send my Christian friends to the website below which debunks the whole thing against premarital sex in the Bible. That way they have no excuse not to support comprehensive sex education.

Ask yourself – If you do not wish to become pregnant, what is the best way to go about it?
- The best answer would be abstinence.
- The 2nd best answer would be contraception and this is not a 100% preventive method.
- If #2 should fail and an unwanted pregnancy should result, it is up to the individual or individuals to make their own moral decisions on the next steps and any consequences thereof.
To suggest that being abstinent is the same as abortion is really you just being intentionally obtuse.
