Should abortion be outlawed?
If the procedure is outlawed should women who continue to have abortions be punished?
How should women who have illegal abortions be punished?
If women are not to be punished for illegal abortions how are they not responsible for allowing the abortion to be performed on their bodies?
If you are going to answer "abortions are legal" True but not an answer to the questions being asked then try to answer this: If abortion is to remain legal what is the most compelling and valid argument for doing so you can think of?
David K, Islam Is Wrong 4UK, Justice, Joyann, Emarrrro, and Divine Oubliette thank you for answering in a way that indicated you read the questions and were responding to what was being asked. I wish I could give all of you extra points although one of you will likely get 10 points for best answer..
Stephen: I agree with you but I would have preferred if you gave a reason besides your assertion why you believe it.
CIA: the question applies to all women not just those receiving public assistance.
the rest of the answers I just don’t take seriously.
Deb: good answer as well
Making it illegal is a great idea – it’s been working out so well for other countries . . . .
Legal basis for Philippine abortion ban
The act is criminalized by the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines, which was enacted in 1930 and remains in effect today. Articles 256, 258 and 259 of the Code mandate imprisonment for the woman who undergoes the abortion, as well as for any person who assists in the procedure, even if they be the woman’s parents, a physician or midwife. Article 258 further imposes a higher prison term on the woman or her parents if the abortion is undertaken "in order to conceal [the woman's] dishonor".
*Funny that making it illegal doesn’t stop women.
Abortion practices in the Philippines
One study estimated that, despite legal restrictions, in 1994 there were 400,000 abortions performed illegally in the Philippines and 80,000 hospitalizations of women for abortion-related complications. 12% of all maternal deaths in 1994 were due to unsafe abortion according to the Department of Health of the Philippines. Two-thirds of Filipino women who have abortions attempt to self-induce or seek solutions from those who practice folk medicine. [3]

Abortion: There is a Consensus
EDIT – The constitutional right to choose abortion was a limited one. In the first trimester, the state had no power to restrict abortion; beginning with the second trimester, the state might regulate, but not prohibit, abortion; and in the third trimester, the state might prohibit abortion except when necessary for the mother’s life or health.

Besides there will always be wise women who do not need clinics to induce a miscarriage.
Murder is a legal definition, and murder requires that the death involve an individual with legal ‘personhood.’ Fetuses and embryos do not have legal ‘personhood.’ (If they did, every miscarriage would be counted in mortality rates, (and would have to be investigated legally by the coroner as an ‘unexpected death’) and every fetus would be counted in the census.)
Some of us believe that, for some people, in some situations, abortion is the better of two bad options. It’s not a "good thing" but sometimes it’s the better choice for the person most immediately involved … the pregnant woman.
Basically murder is a legal term, not a moral term.
They should be held on manslaughter. And face the full punishment their state allows. If it’s an illegal abortion the was probably far enough along that the fetus was actually a child with a beating heart.
And to the people rating my answer down, I agree with legal abortions but this wouldn’t be legal.. The child would no longer be a fetus.
Are you saying a women should be allowed to kill her baby at 8 months? at 9 months? Seriously?

Abortion should be allowed for rape victims including child victims of rape . If abortion is illegal in one country have it done in another country. If someone has an abortion in a country where it is illegal then it is down to the law to decide what the punishment should be. As someone who believes that abortion should be legal i find it impossible to think of any punishment for something i do not see as a crime.

If any woman contemplating an abortion right now reads this question? Time served. Question is, how shall we punish YOU for not living YOUR life, and staying the hell out of things that you don’t understand, and are none of your business??
Any woman who has gone through the agony of making this decision, and has to listen to self-righteous morons attack and belittle her on top of it,.. has been punished quite enough.
A woman has the right to do whatever she sees fit with her own body! When are you fools going to get that through your thick heads?

Was outlawed in old days so women died due to illegal non medical procedures- done with knitting needles in dirty rooms by old croneys.- so they were punished by dying of infection
If they did not have it they were punished by having a kid they did not have resources to raise or adopted with those issues,
Are men punished by not taking precautions during sex or not paying child support or marrying mother? Do they get punished for what they helped do to the woman’s body? Ie impregnate it? Without having ay intention on taking responsibilty for the production of a possible child?? IE have the fun but not the 18 year of responsibilty? NO the woman usually is left to do that in poverty.
Women should have choice over THEIR body. There needs to be control around abortions such as 1st trimester only, medical, social reasons but women who are desperate will try dangerous ways to geet rid of a baby if they cannot do it legally. in the end their body. their concience.

I always felt that if I were to get raped that I would want to get an abortion. But now there are pills like Plan B and things that can be taken 72 hours after intercourse.
Wrap it up, people.
But to answer your question, I still don’t think it should be outlawed but it should be regulated. Anyone could walk into a clinic at any time and get one right now and i definitely do not think that is right. People have other options and do not realize it.

if abortion should be made illegal the world would be full of unwanted children that parents resent making an unhappy childhood into an unhappy adulthood then repeating the cycle for there own children.
there has always been ways of terminating pregnancy many cultures and tribes use natural methods to induce abortion (is this to be illegal?) in the first few weeks when nobody knows.
backstreet abortions cause deaths which is why a legal abortion under proper medical conditions is far better.
in this day and age there is no reason for unwanted pregnancy with the amount of contraception available. but things do happen, it can fail to be effective = pregnancy so why should the pregnancy be continued if all steps were taken to prevent it in the first place. rape victim= pregnancy not suffered enough without the trauma of motherhood.
I have 2 children both wanted and have only been pregnant twice im still pro choice.
i could be put off sex forever because at the back of my mind would always be what if i get pregnant and was forced into having an unwanted baby, knowing that the only safe sex is no sex.
i also think every woman has the right to decide
