When debating against abortion, what argument could you use when the opponent says illegal abortion rates will just increase and create unsafe conditions?
Agree with their first point about illegal abortion rates increasing, since if abortion was illegal then ALL abortions would be illegal. If you made something illegal that is currently mostly legal, of course the number of illegal cases of it is going to increase!
You could then say something about it shouldn’t be legal just to make things safer for the women. You could make a comparison with drugs. It’d be like saying we should legalise drugs to make it safer for the drug users (it would, as then drugs would be regulated).
There’s really no argument against that. That’s a fact since it’s what happened before they were legal. Instead of arguing that point, I’d move to another.

there isn’t much to debate on that because ‘illegal’ abortion rates WOULD increase – since ALL abortions would be ‘illegal’ if abortion was outlawed – thats a play on words AND simple math! ‘unsafe’ abortions would increase because generally speaking ALL ‘illegal’ abortions are unsafe!
but the OVERALL number of abortions would decrease.
just as committing any crime is generally dangerous – stealing cars, robbing stores….making it ‘legal’ doesn’t make it ‘right’.

I don’t know that you can argue that. If you look through our history, whenever something is made illegal, the cost sky rockets and people find their own way to do things. This form of medical procedure should not be done by a novice. And any knowledgeable dr won’t perform an illegal abortion. This leaves desperate women with ill informed people performing an invasive procedure at sky rocketing costs. Not a good thing, it can lead to deadly situations and serious infections.
It doesn’t matter what side of the debate you’re on, this is one thing that I think most people will have to agree with. Whether they want to or not.

Print off that site, or call the number for the huge poster they will mail you. Women die from abortion, its a known fact. While women will most certainly die when they get an abortion in the back of a van, maybe if it was illegal they would try harder to use birth control and consider adoption if a mistake does occur.
There is nothing "safe" about abortion in the first place. There are always risks.

I guess you would really need to check into the medical costs of abortion, and run those against the costs of treating infections of ill treated women in illegal abortions, and try to come up with an arguement based off that?

There is no argument there. That is exactly what happened when abortion wasn’t legal. Women were having back alley abortions by unlicensed doctors and many women were dying or seriously maimed.
There is no debate there. If you take away the legal right to choose, people will still do it.

Well, abortions are unsafe anyway, especially for a woman’s mental health. 75% of women who have had abortions say they would choose something different if they were back again. It really f*cks with your head.

just say that’s not what you are discussing, what is in discussion is if the abortion is murder or not, and for someone who thinks it is murder (like me) making it legal so people won’t practise illegal abortion it’s not an option, what should happen is that people who use illegal abortion should go to jail, and that’s it. And obviously educate the society so they don’t get accidentally pregnant in the first place.
i mean that argument is completely invalid in this discussion, it’s like saying yeah, so that we avoid steals followed by murder let’s make stealing legal so there won’t be a situation where someone can get murdered. if not murders will continue increasing.

I think everyone who is conceived, unwanted or wanted, should have the right to live. I don’t see how someone can say "it’s my body" when clearly they can’t feel the pain or anything that baby feels, that baby is a separate living being. It is not your body.
