Fact: The abortion rate for minors dropped 25.6% in the two years following enactment of a parental involvement law in Virginia.
Fact: Pennsylvania’s teen pregnancy rate dropped by 18.7% the year following enactment of a parental involvement law. Fact: A study of over 46,000 pregnancies of school-age girls in California found that over two thirds were impregnated by adult men whose mean age was 22.6 years. Fact: Parental involvement laws on average reduce the number of abortions on teens by 15 percent while also reducing the overall teen pregnancy rate. Let’s protect our daughters, restore parents’ rights, and strengthen our families. Parents are responsible for paying the medical bills incurred with any complications following the abortion. Therefore, they should be informed of the abortion decision. Public opinion polls consistently show a majority of Americans understand the value of parental involvement and support requiring parental notification before a minor’s abortion. Most teenage girls are not prepared for the possible aftermath (physical, emotional, psychological) of abortion. They need their parents to be informed and involved. It is indefensible for government (which can legally require parental involvement) to, by default, encourage girls to exclude their parents during this time in their lives. Parents must give consent for other medical procedures (excluding emergencies), including ear piercing and the disbursement of aspirin in a school setting. Minors often need their parents to sign school report cards and approve school field trips. Why should abortion be an exception?Parental involvement laws decrease the risk of medical complications connected with the abortion by allowing parents to provide important medical information and history their daughter may not know or provide. Parental involvement increases the likelihood the teenager will receive the needed follow-up care after the abortion. The absence of parental involvement laws puts teenagers who are victims of rape or incest at risk for repeated abuse. These laws generally include a provision for girls pregnant due to rape or incest to bypass parental notification or consent by a direct petitioning of the court. This triggers protective measures for the girl, who otherwise could have a “secret” abortion and return to a potentially abusive social or home environment. It is not murdering an innocent baby, it is stopping the development from foetus to baby. At that stage it has no emotions and can’t feel pain. A teen girl can. And she can be made to suffer by those parents.

The data is drawing illogical conclusions. Let’s say the sale of apples decreased in states with parental notification laws. Would that mean having these laws CAUSES apple sales to drop? Unless you can show these laws CAUSE teens to get pregnant less & that the total nationwide abortion rate decreased, then there’s no proof it reduced anything. Kids w/ good parents don’t feel the need to hide this stuff. If you force people to have kids they aren’t prepared to care for, this is what happens.

This is an illogical conclusion. Having parental notification laws doesn’t reduce pregnancies or abortions. It simply outsources those abortions to other nearby states. Parental notification laws won’t make kids turn to their parents. If you can’t figure out how to make your child feel comfortable talking to you, then why should the government step in make it worse? Those who parent properly don’t need these laws.
